Spring Forward/Fall Back
March 14, 2009
I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve been driving the same car for ten years and yet again this week, when the time changed, I had to pull the owners manual out to figure out how to change the clock.
I’m a slow learner.
When lamenting the situation on my Facebook page, one person suggested I just move west to the Mountain Time Zone until fall when the time switches back.
That was a pretty good suggestion, I thought.
That would put me nearer to Idaho, a place we’re hoping to explore in greater depth this summer. I wrote a little article for The Crafts Report in the March issue
about an interesting art initiative they have there called Two Degrees Northwest. It’s an effort to connect craft artisans in rural areas with a great buying market and draw more tourists into the region of central Idaho.
If you make it to Idaho in the near future, or if you’re just cyber-traveling, check it out.
So, if I follow the changes of time, this fall, I would have to move to the Eastern Time Zone, also not a bad suggestion, because that would put us in greater proximity to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The park is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and so many cool things are happening.

But if you visit in fall, when the time change would put me there, you would be joining most of the nine million visitors who come to the park each year, many of them attracted to the beautiful foliage in the Smokies.
Come sooner. Come now for the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage in April. And while you are there, check out the limited edition work by craft artisans created just for the 75th anniversary. I did a story about them for The Crafts Report as well. This story is in the April issue. So these are some of the things Bruce and I have been up to, along with digging out owner’s manuals for all of our clocks. It’s just a little easier than packing up and moving every six months.
